Dentures
Dentures are removable prostheses that replace some or all of the teeth. Standard
dentures have acrylic bases to which are set teeth from a variety of manufacturers.
These teeth are of differing quality and price. Options will be discussed with you
at your initial appointment. While dentures are a scary thought for many people
they are a fantastic option. They are cost affective, cosmetically sound and very
functional. Many people who have had full dentures for years can look at least 10
years younger once new dentures are fitted at the correct bite height. It is so
important to get this height as it helps re tone facial muscles and gives back a
good-looking lip line. It truly contributes to a non-surgical face-lift.
For people with some teeth, partial dentures will be advised. Again we stress the
importance of getting the bite height correct. Your habitual bite may be a collapsed
bite and thus not serve you well and visually age you in the process. We make acrylic,
chrome or gold-based partial dentures. While once again we attempt to stay metal
free for some people the reduced bulk afforded by metal dentures is the overriding
factor for tolerance and comfort. As a rule for women, if you can't wear metal earrings
without redness or weeping then stay away from metal in the mouth too. Dentures
take up to 4 appointments.
- Impressions are taken for bite blocks and special tray construction.
- Special tray impressions, bite and shade are recorded.
- The dentures are tried in. The teeth are placed on a wax template. It is at this
stage that any changes you require can be made. For some this is the time to bring
someone you trust with you to give an opinion on the look. We can change anything
at this appointment before we go to finalisation.
- This is the fitting appointment. Only minor alterations to the bite or fitting surface
can be made at this time. Cosmetic changes are not possible, this is why appointment
3 is so valuable as changes are made at this time.
