FAQ
What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are made to replace a missing tooth. An implant is a small screw
placed in the jawbone, which looks like a thin metal rod, made of titanium. It acts
as a replacement ‘root’ of a tooth and is able to support a single or several false
teeth, known as ‘restorations’. Over several months, the implant will can fuse with
the bone of the patient’s jaw via a healing process called ‘osseointegration’. Once
a suitable period of time has elapsed to allow healing, you will be ready for the
placement of your replacement tooth/teeth or restoration; usually a crown or a bridge
is attached to the implant. During healing time, implant sites will be covered with
something temporary. There may not always be enough bone to support an implant, in
which case the dentist may recommend a bone-graft or a ‘sinus-lift’ first for extra
anchorage. The end result is a completely natural looking tooth that will last for
the very minimum of 15 years. A dental implant is a tried & tested method that is
considered very safe. While it is not the cheapest form of treatment, implantiology
is so reliable and secure, that it represents good value for money.

We offer bridges and dentures. However many people are looking for implants to replace
missing teeth. This is a process where a metal peg is placed into the bone. Once
the bone has moulded around the implant it can be used for crown or bridge implantation.
Implants can also be used for people who have difficulty wearing full dentures and
need some form of retention. This option will be discussed with you and the necessary
arrangements made for this procedure to take place.
